Blizzard Breeze stood absolutely still for a long moment. He stood looking down at Silver Sylph for so long that a watcher might have thought that he had forgotten his lines. But it was not so. Snowdrop knew what she was supposed to say.
She just was having a hard time saying it.
Although deeply in character as Blizzard Breeze, there was still a part of her that remained Snowdrop. The soft, warm heart of the filly wanted so badly to relent and let Silver Sylph have a happily ever after, since she loved Golden Grain so much. But she was Blizzard Breeze too, and he was jealous and wrathful; he had no pity for his betrothed.
Or did he? Were his next lines a venting of spiteful fury, a death sentence to both because he was excluded? Or was he really helping Silver Sylph escape from a world she could never know happiness in? Or even both? Snowdrop couldn't say, but all those feelings came together in her- Jealousy and pity, bitterness and compassion. Blizzard Breeze tossed his head scornfully.
"Even now, thou thinkest only of him? Thou would bargain thyself but for his sake alone? Thou promises me a fair cup that will hold no drink! Indeed, madame! If thou can spare no love for I, in my passion and pain, throw thyself down! Throw thyself down at once, lest I take it upon myself to aid you thus!" Blizzard Breeze stepped forward menacingly!

Inkie Pie seemed a bit thrown-off by the pause, slipping out of character for only a moment. But once Snowdrop spoke again, continuing as Blizzard Breeze, she knew it was time for her finale. Inkie was once again lost in her character, unable to really think as herself for the moment. She tore a sheet from the bed, wrapping it around herself where her wings would have been.
"In thine selfish cruelty, I pray... Nay, I know that thou wilst never find love. As I fall, know too so shall thine hopes of any happiness!" She stood at the edge of the bed looking down as if hoping to see her love below. "Oh my Golden Grain, if only there were something that I could do to save thou. I would sacrifice myself for thou without a moment's recompense. Nay, I pray that you would have me now..." She tightened the sheet around her. "You shall have your bride as you deserve, an earth pony, rejecting the skies above." Tears streamed from her eyes as she turned so her back faced the edge, and rose on her hind hooves, starting to fall backwards.

Having finished Blizzard Breeze's final lines, Snowdrop was temporarily in between characters for a moment. This was fortunate for Inkie Pie, because Snowdrop had the presence of mind to toss down a couple of pillows for Silver Sylph to crash on. Then she took a 'flying' leap from the bed across the room to become the grieved Golden Grain, charging to the rescue, but arriving too late.
"Alas my love, my heart! What unhappy accident has befallen thee? What wicked hand has cast down this, the brightest of stars and the one at which I laid all my wishes? Cruel destiny! Thou may part us in life; but in death, never! Farewell, spiteful earth!" And drawing an imaginary sword, Golden Grain threw himself upon it, ending his life at the side of his beloved!
Snowdrop lay thoughtfully quietly, looking up at the ceiling. That was so sad. the little filly thought to herself. If they could have been more open about the way they were feeling, maybe they would have had the courage to fight their fates. Silver Sylph didn't have to die. She could have told Golden Grain her feelings as well as about the potion. Golden Grain would have returned her feelings, and married her. It might not have been easy, but they could have made it work. But maybe I don't understand love.
Snowdrop glanced over at Inkie Pie, to see what she was doing. She had the impression that more than just a few minutes had passed, and Inkie had been quiet for so long that it wouldn't have exactly surprised Snow to find her new friend asleep!

And so, Silver Sylph fell, rejecting her wings to die as her Earth Pony love, who she already believed was dying by some cruel scheme that Blizzard Breeze concocted. Even in death, she was graceful, and drawn to her lover. She lay there, limp, even after she heard Snowdrop get up. She was dead...
And just like that, she hopped to her hooves. The play was done. It was so sad... yet she genuinely enjoyed being Silver Sylph, and was very thankful that Snowdrop played along. The corners of the filly's mouth twitched a bit... but settled into a contented straight, thin line. She trotted over Snowdrop a nuzzling hug. "Thanks, I've never done something like that before. You're a really good actress! If anypony was auditioning, I bet you would nail the part." She took a step back, looking at the mess that the two of them made of her sheets and bed. "Oops..." She tossed the pillows and sheets back up onto the bed, halfheartedly making the bed, and leaving it in only a relative mess.

"That was fun!" Snowdrop replied happily, returning the nuzzlehug enthusiastically. "Even though it was so sad. I wish Blizzard Breeze would have let Silver Sylph live happily with Golden Grain. I wonder if there really is a potion that would give an earth pony wings."
Snowdrop considered it a moment and then shrugged it off. She was far from a realist but even she found that hard to believe. Magic was one thing, it worked from the outside in, but a potion has to work from the inside out. How could you be sure to get the right number of wings, or in the right places? She imagined herself with seven wings coming out of her head and had to smother a laugh.
"But you do it really well, Inkie!" added Snowdrop, watching her friend remake her bed. "Acting, I mean. I've pretended lots of stuff but you're even better than me! You're a natural!" Of course, neither pony had really watched their own performance, they were only able to see the others. "Do you know all these storie- I mean, plays by heart?" she asked, nodding towards the books.
She knew a few of them, but not word-for-word like Inkie did. Her friend's expertise in this area rather impressed and interested her, especially if they could play (For Snowdrop, the pretending was an end in itself, never mind the performing) more of the plays in the future. It was even better, pretending with someone else!

Inkie nodded in agreement with Snowdrop. "It's a tragedy. It's about the story and the emotions, not so much about the end." she explained. "And I don't know about the potions..." she said, looking at Snowdrops wings contemplatively, then to her own bare, earth pony sides. "Maybe there is. Pinkie was telling me that there's this zebra who lives in the Everfree forest who makes remedies and things like that for the ponies around here. Maybe she knows something?" she suggested with a shrug.
A tiny bit of red fought it's way through her grey fur, surfacing in response to her compliments. "Thanks, I've read them a lot, so I know every line. I never really got a chance to recite or anything like that, though." She nodded slowly. "Whenever I felt bad, I mean really bad, I would read them. It's a bit of a comfort to know that it could always be worse, and even if somepony does have it worse, they still try to make it better for themselves, and do everything they can to fight the bad things." she sat down on her bed looking over at her new friend. "What I want to know is how you got so good. Unless you've read that one before?" she asked curiously, still amazed that she picked up not one, but two parts so quickly and easily.

Snowdrop turned a rather pink color of her own, and white fur not being suited for hiding a blush, it showed up rather plainly. But that the compliment made Snow happy was obvious too, for although she tried to be modest about it, her friend's praise brought a shy-ish grin to the filly's face.
"I haven't read that one before, but I've read other stories a little bit like it, especially the way they talk, and stuff. I like the big strong declarations. They're more interesting than the way people talk normally. I learned to memorize stories and things quickly, because..." Snowdrop explained, then trailed off as she hesitated.
She was going to say 'because sometimes I get moved from place to place so quickly that I don't get a chance to read it again, ever' but she had become aware that Inkie Pie was a bit ... Snow's affectionate heart would not allow her to call her new friend gloomy but perhaps a bit of a worrier. (though that didn't really express the feeling Snow had about her!) And she suspected that if she explained that, Then Inkie Pie might worry about Snowdrop being moved again. (Which was also a worry of Snow's already) Then, whenever they met, Inkie would be reminded that their time might be limited and then she would not be able to have as good a time as she might have if she wasn't worrying about it.
All this consideration had rather put a long pause into their conversation, and Snowdrop seemed to 'snap' back to reality after a moment, and laughed a little sheepishly. "I'm sorry. sometimes I do that. My mind and my mouth run in different directions, sometimes. So, I learned to memorize stories quickly because I like to pretend- well, act them out when I'm playing. But it can be hard to do if you have to read from the book when you're doing it. It doesn't feel quite as real. " Which was just as true.

Inkie Pie nodded. "If everypony spoke like that, we'd always know exactly how they were feeling, down to the last detail." She affirmed. Inkie had grown used to Snowdrop zoning out in thought, since it was something that was rather apparent from the beginning, but that still didn't stop the curious filly from leaning forward a bit as the pegasus went quiet. "Because why?"
But once that was answered, Inkie was left with a few more questions of her own. Of course, in a way, she understood, thanks to growing up with Pinkie. "Trust me, not a problem at all" It seemed that instead of her head and mouth rushing forward without regard for whichever was ahead of the other, Snowdrop instead waited, and let them catch up to each other. She had to admit, it was a bit... refreshing. "You definitely seem to like pretending a lot." She commented, more stating a fact than actually making the obvious observation.
The earth pony filly trotted about the room a bit, satisfied that the two of them cleaned up whatever mess they made with their performance, she turned to Snowdrop once again. "So, what would you like to do now, Snowdrop?" she seemed a bit... different than before. Her dismal mood was now just... downcast. Her gloom had been dialed back to a more... tolerable level.

"I do like to pretend a lot," Snowdrop agreed cheerfully. "There are just so many interesting things you know? and I want to try them all, but I cant do many of them yet, if ever. Pretending is like the very next best thing. Maybe even better than the real thing, because if it gets uncomfortable, or boring, or not-nice, you can just stop!" She giggled as said this.
Snowdrop noticed that Inkie seemed a bit more... well, not exactly cheerful, but not unhappy, either. If the mood before had been a rainy day, now it was merely cloudy. And the filly thought that she would like to see her smile, maybe even laugh, really laugh, sometime. But Snowdrop was happy for what she had, today.
However, when Inkie Pie asked her what she would like to do now, Snowdrop's stomach spoke up first with a loud gurgly grumble that was plainly audible in the room. Snowdrop was speechless for a moment while the turned pink up to her eartips, resembling more of a rose than a snowdrop at that moment. "Sorry about that," she said with an embarrassed laugh. "I guess all that acting made me a little hungry."
