"Trying to be brave, hm? Let's just see what we can do about that."
The Basics
Name: Loki
Nickname/Alias: The Speaker
Species: Unicorn
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Group: Bad pony, bad pony, bad pony.
Occupation: The Speaker for the Darkness
Appearance
Fur/Mane/Tail: Loki's fur is dark gray, the same color as the shadows in which he so frequently lurks. It's also got a sleek, smooth sheen to it, which tends to give a faint gleam when subjected to the light. This is partly due to his vanity; this same vanity drives him to keep his mane neatly, uniformly slicked back. Much to his chagrin, though, the ends of his mane and tail defy his efforts to keep them perfectly placed, unlike those of his sister. In general, he shares his sister's colors--just one of many signs of their close interdependence.
Clothes/Accessories: None. Due to his particular line of work, Loki rarely leaves the Everfree Forest, and there's no real need to dress up in there. However, were he to wear anything, it would be perfectly fitted and put together; he'd have nothing less.
Cutie Mark:
Loki's cutie mark is a purple triangle over a dark cloud. The triangle represents his skill with illusions--it is, in fact, an impossible triangle. The dark cloud represents the fact that the illusions he creates are never pleasant, as they are generally defined by the fears his sister detects.
Overview: Loki never makes a move without purpose. He's not particularly large or muscular, but he's imbued with an obvious grace; his movements and mannerisms are precise and intentioned, an outward manifestation of his calculating mind. He also generally keeps his eyes half-lidded, as though he could care less about what goes on around him; in reality, though, he's observing carefully, doing his best to not miss a thing. In general, he tries to keep his emotions carefully concealed, and unless he's pushed beyond his breaking point, the most he'll reveal is a disapproving frown.
Personality
Personality Description: Loki is, in a word, sadistic. He spends most of his time following elaborate plans, whether those plans are constructed by himself or the Darkness--and he enjoys every minute of it. This constant feeling of control has given the stallion a fair ego and an attitude of general disdain for everypony but his sister--and of course, for his Master, the only being Loki openly fears upsetting. Not that this fear is without reason, as he is constantly forced to remind his sister; even his temper is no match for that of the Darkness.
The most common--and effective--way to agitate Loki is to interfere with his plans, either by actively disobeying him or simply being an unpredictable victim. Schemes are what most of his life is based on, and taking them away is a surefire route to inflaming his temper. Given that he doesn't often indulge in unleashing it, his anger can be incredibly caustic when it's finally expressed; needless to say, for all that they resent him, the rest of Darkness' minions know not to upset Loki, as with his sister.
If it seems that his sister is coming up a lot, well, that's because Loki is incredibly close to his twin; Nari is the only creature in Equestria he cares for. Granted, they have their disagreements (mostly about her dangerous lack of deference to the Darkness), but that has never kept them apart for long. And together, they're a dangerous force to be reckoned with.
Strengths:
- Illusion magic
- Stealth
- Seduction - he's attractive, and he knows it
- Generally a couple steps ahead of the game
- A smooth talker
Weaknesses
- Has extreme trouble coping when his plans go awry
- Vanity
- Impatient
- Has a nasty temper if he's pushed too far
- His rationality diminishes rapidly as his stress levels rise
Fears:
- Displeasing Darkness
- Losing his sister
- Losing control of any situation
Magical Specialty/Abilities: The ability to create illusions. This isn't done by physically bending light, but by simply tricking ponies into believing they're seeing something that's not there. Usually, he uses this in conjunction with the psychic bond he has to his twin, turning his illusions into the victims' worst nightmares.
History
History: Loki's family origin was so banal as to be almost humiliating. This was largely because of his parents; an earth pony bumpkin of a father and a unicorn mother who was so undignified that she may as well have been an earth pony, herself. They supported themselves and their twins by finding, digging up, and selling gemstones in Ponyville. Loki and his twin sister Nari absolutely refused to participate in this, finding it painfully boring. Instead, they played together--if you could call their rather twisted games 'playing.'
Despite their reluctance, the two young ponies were eventually forced to help out. Fortunately for their sanity, though, they were allowed to do so without the company of their parents; the colt and filly simply carried the gems to market in Ponyville, tended the stand, then brought them back home, allowing their (somewhat discouraged) parents to spend more time finding jewels. This wasn't much of a consolation, but it was enough.
And besides, life had its own way of making up for its own shortcomings.
It didn't take long for Loki and Nari to discover that their connection extended beyond even that of just close siblings. For at times, he realized he wasn't alone in his mind--he could hear his sister there, as well! Of course, this initially didn't provide much more than a way for them to secretly snark about their customers, but it was no less pleasing for that. And though they did still speak out loud, it was a nice way to keep the walks to and from home truly private. And for such naturally confrontational ponies, it generally kept them from getting into any serious disagreements; after all, they could usually see what the other was thinking. What was there to argue about?
But one day, walking to market, they did argue. It was loud, childish, and pointless, but they did so anyways--and in the midst of their fighting, they didn't realize until too late that they were lost. Loki was about to renew the argument and blame this latest development on his sister when he discovered, to his shock and dismay, that she was nowhere to be seen. In fact, he couldn't see much of anything; the forest seemed to have been obscured by darkness. For the first time in his life, Loki was terrified, and that only grew worse when a voice from nowhere began to speak in a smooth, sinister tone.
"Yes, you fear me...good. You know your place--or at least, you shall."
And that was how Loki came to be taken by Darkness.
Shortly, a group of adult ponies arrived, taking the confused colt to the remains of an old stone building. There, Loki was reunited with Nari, and both young ponies were informed that this was their new home, and that they were never to see their old parents again. He was perfectly fine with this, now that he had his twin; he couldn't stand the fools, anyways. Granted, their new caretakers were less than friendly, insulting him by referring to him as a filly--but he didn't care. Both he and his sister knew their bitterness stemmed from jealousy, and though they didn't know why just yet, it was enough to keep him going.
Eventually, they spoke to Darkness itself once again, and were informed that they were his chosen two: the ponies who would help him to achieve his ultimate goal. Nari smirked at the information; Loki gave what was more aptly termed a vengeful grin. Now he knew why they were so important, and why the rest of the Elite were so jealous. After all, despite their years of service, they could not be the Chosen themselves. And though, like his sister, Loki knew not to abuse this, it certainly gave him a sense of superiority.
Since then, the pony twins have served their master loyally, breaking whatever victims come their way and awaiting the day when, finally, the Darkness can leave its cradle to spread over Equestria.
