A quiet, peaceful day in Ponyville...
CRASH!
Well, mostly. A certain wacky-eyed pegasus finds herself, fixing the sign above a local shop.
"Sorry, sorry... Just give me a minute, it'll be good as new." she lifted one end of the sign... which only caused the other side to give the frustrated store owner to get a nasty bump on the head. "Oh! I'm so sorry! Here, let me help!"
"You've done enough Derpy, thank you" the grumbling pony sighed, rubbing his head. A little sad, Derpy flew off, pulling a letter out of her mailbag. She blinked as she looked down at the address, her eyes seemed to shift even more than they already have. "Okay... just a few more to deliver today-OOF!" The poor clutzy pony met the side wall of a brick building face-first, letting the letter flutter to the ground, with her coming crashing down behind it. "Ow..."

Today seemed like a pretty good day. After her nasty argument with Rarity, Twilight Sparkle had managed to make amends, as well as a good letter to Princess Celestia ("Arguing and insulting are never the best ways to solve problems with your friends--even if you think you're in the right"). After that, she'd had a pleasant brunch with Fluttershy, then gone to Quills and Sofas to purchase several new quills. After assuring the shopkeeper that no, she had enough sofas for the time being, the unicorn was headed back to the library for a good study session.
Trotting cheerily over one of the bridges leading to Ponyville's central plaza, Twilight was lost in thought when movement in her peripheral vision caused her to halt. It was a good thing she did, too; had she kept going, she would have been crushed by falling pegasus. As it was, she took a swift step backward in alarm, staring wide-eyed at the jumble of gray fur and feathers before her.
"Ow..."
"Oh, Derpy!" Twilight said, both in recognition and concern. "Are you alright? Here, let me help you!" Holding out a hoof for the mailpony to grab onto, the purple unicorn noticed the letter, which had landed--somewhat more gracefully--a few feet away. Still holding out her hoof, Twilight focused on the wayward envelope, both her horn and the letter becoming bather in violet light. She levitated the envelope closer to Derpy, who she figured could take it once she was on her hooves again.

It took the postpony a little while to register just who is helping her up. Her eyes boggled about her head for a bit before returning back to their usual place. "Oh! Twilight! Thanks for the help." She grinned, but tilted her head a bit as the letter floated over her. "Oh! Actually, I'm glad I bumped into you. She pushes the floating letter over to her. "It's for you! From somepony in Canterlot, I think." She grinned, glad that her accidents turn out so well for her.
She smiled silently to herself, glad she's finally found a job she's good at and can keep. In fact, her favorite part of the job was coming up, seeing how just reading a letter made her friends so happy, surprised, or filled them with some other emotion. It was always satisfying, since it's like she was delivering feelings to people, which was really cool!

"Oh! Actually, I'm glad I bumped into you."
"Oh?" Twilight asked, raising an eyebrow. "Why's that?" For somepony who'd just collided with both a building and the ground in quick succession, Derpy seemed rather cheerful; Twilight supposed this had something to do with the fact that she did things like that with alarming frequency. The unicorn found it a bit sad, to be honest. After all, it wasn't like she seemed to deserve it. Briefly, she made a mental note to research any spells that might make Derpy less...
...derpy.
"It's for you! From somepony in Canterlot, I think."
"Canterlot?" Twilight repeated incredulously, rotating the still-suspended envelope so the address would face her. Sure enough, it was addressed to Twilight Sparkle--but that just confused her more. After all, her mail generally came through Spike. Staring curiously at the thing, she opened it magically, levitating the letter itself out of the envelope. "Let's see, here..." she muttered, skipping the message itself to see who'd signed at the end.
In a moment, her expression melted from bemusement to pleasure. "Oh, it's from my parents!" Twilight practically chirped, tucking the message back in its envelope (she could read it when she was home). "Thank you, Derpy," she said once that was done. "Are you sure you're okay?"

Derpy smiled in anticipation as Twilight inspected the letter. Letters from parents are almost always good! Her smile broadened, but slowly started to droop when Twilight folded the letter back up. Oh well, it's not like it was the her place to intrude anyway. This isn't the first letter she wasn't able to sit through the reading of, after all. She simply sighed and pushed a smile back up onto her face.
"Alright then! And... umm... yeah I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" she asked with a head-tilt and a derpy blink. "Oh! And before I forget, do you want me to stop by later if you plan on writing back? Or can Spike send messages like, everywhere?" she asks, actually very intrigued by the idea.
She sat down, where she was... just in time for a passing cart to run over her tail. "OUCH!" she leapt up into the air in pain, overturning the carrot cart in the process. "Owowowowow! Sorry I'm so sorry, want some help with that?" She seemed to recover from the pain rather quick... much to the cart driver's dismay. "No... No, you've helped enough..."
Derpy frowned and fluttered back to the ground. "Okay... sorry..." After a few moments, she turned her attention back to Twilight. "So anyway... what else can he do? Send packages? or just scrolls and letters?" She continued, as if nothing happened.
