It had been a long few day's that Reake had been traveling through small villages. He had heard about Ponyville in his travels and thought that it would be a great place to "set up shop." He decided to make his way into the town when it became night. That also gave him the time to put his "cutie mark" on. He managed to stay in the forest outside of town until most of the ponies had gone inside to do whatever it was that they did in this town.
Reake then began to carefully walk around the town in order to see what was there. There were many homes, and paths to other places then the forest. There was a large school and a nicely sized library. A bakery that looked as if it was made out of sugar. A clothing store that, from the window, looked expensive and decorative. Finally there was a large pavilion around the middle of the town. Now that his walk around was over he sat down in the area of the pavilion to think.
It was then when he thought no one was around that he started to relax. He knew that it would probably take him a while to live in the town itself. He made sure to find a spot in the forest that was more covered then not to sleep, and he would just have to keep his belongings near him. Reake then began to stare up at the sky at the stars, completely lost in thought.

Not too far off, a unicorn happened to be hard at work in front of her eisel. She seemed very... involved in her work. There was no way of knowing exactly what her fur's color was, since she was covered in so many splatters of multicolored paint. Miraculusly, her cutie mark showed through clearly, despite all of the paint.
Splattershade seemed intent on her painting, holding both a brush in her mouth, levitating a palette and second brush next to her, and even using the tip of her tail to work on her art. She worked contentedly, humming to herself as she gave a few careful brushstrokes here and there. She assumed she was alone, and was enjoying the peace and solitude.
In her mind, she was already planning exactly where this painting would go in her gallery. The perfect spot where the colors mix and hit the light just right, showing it off perfectly without taking away from the rest of the paintings. Needless to say, the young unicorn mare was quite pleased with herself.

Reake had been watching the stars for a few minutes when he heard the faint sound of motion. He was sure that if it wasn't night and quiet he wouldn't have heard anything. It was strange it didn't sound like forest animals, it was to close to town for that. He stood up and began to quietly look around to see who else was out at night. The sounds were still hard for him to find as they were faint, but he eventually saw a pony that appeared to be splattered with paint with and easel in front of them.
He approached cautiously. not wanting to get paint on himself. He was certainly curious as to what this pony was painting. Reake had always enjoyed art. Spending all those years with his head in books and being alone not only made him smarter, it also give him an appreciation of art. After watching for a few moments Reake thought that he would introduce himself.
"Excuse me, but I thought I was the only one that would be out here this late at night. Can you show me what you are painting or is it a secret?"

"No... needs more blue... Black is just so... dreary and overdone..." Splattershade announced aloud to herself, still unaware that somepony was approaching her. She simply continued her work, looking up, then back down at her easel.
She was feeling quite proud of herself, up until somepony spoke up behind her! "AHH!" she squeaked in fright and surprise, dragging that careful brushstroke erratically up and across her painting. Finaly, she noticed the colt that approached her, presumably the source of that voice. "OH! Ummm... hi there." She greeted him with a sheepish smile. "I was just... well, I'm a sucker for nightscapes." She explains, showing him the now-incomplete painting. complete with that streaked brushstroke.
She had apparently been looking up at the night sky through the filter of a tree's branches overhead. Instead of white dots on the blackness of night, the painting's sky was filled with yellow-orange balls of light, drifting along swirls of dark blues and purples. The moon glowed almost as warmingly and welcomingly as the sun.
Despite the fact that the paint was covering her face, it was apparent that she was blushing. "I have to stay up this late if I want to get it just right..." She cleared her throat. "Oh, right. I'm sorry. I'm Splattershade. I run the Ponyville Art Gallery." She smiled softly, finally regaining her nerves.

Reake had been listening to this pony talk to herself about her painting of the night sky for a few moments. Seeing her jump and put an obvious mark through it made him smile a bit. This pony was an artist and he knew he could uses that. Now he needed to see how she reacted to his "charm". After thinking for a few moments he though she looked colorful, so he would start there.
"I am sorry for interrupting you work Miss Splattershade, I could not help but notice you. You were doing such a nice job painting the night sky. I hope that you still think that your painting has quite a bit of artistic value. It is to bad that you weren't painting a portrait of yourself. I think that any pony would rather see something more entrancing then the night sky. My name is Reake, is there anything I can do for you?"
That was always how he spoke to other ponies. He emphasized the word "you" all the time. He almost never said "I" or "me" in conversations. It was subtle, but he always led a discussion in one way or another. He was always praising prospective clients along with returning ones. In truth he was telling them what to do, it would however be quite difficult to ever pin that down. After just one talk with someone he could tell whether he should continue or back off from his manipulations.

The young unicorn mare giggled a little bit at being called "miss". "No need to be so formal, just Splat is fine too." she smiled, but it dropped slightly when the conversation turned to her work.
Looking back at her painting, Splat frowned. "I think I can still work with it I suppose... In fact I- OH!" She said with a excited squee of inspiration. She was already at work, turning that streak into a road into the night sky, when the compliment sunk in. "Oh... umm... Thank you." The blush was now clear underneath that paint. "But really, I doubt I would look any good in a portrait." she stammered slightly, trying in vain to focus on her painting again.
His charm definitely seemed to be working well with her, and she scuffed a hoof on the ground before smiling. "Pleasure to meet you Reake."

This pony was definably a little dense or at least easily distracted by her artwork. Reake was a little surprised by how quickly she started blushing. Where there so few colts in this town that she was surprised by it? It might be because she was a bit younger then him. He decided to continue, the least useful she could be would be telling him about the town, which was something he needed to know.
"I think you underestimating your abilities as an artist. I have always heard that only the most beautiful are capable of creating the best art. it is nice you see that continues to be true about you. You really enjoy your art and I am sure that every pony becomes entranced by you and your art."
Reake got the pouch he was carrying on his side and reached into it. He pulled out one strange looking, and brightly multicolored flower. he then placed it near Splattershade so that she would see it. "This is for you, if you ever feeling extra nervous and need to calm down for a while just eat this. I hope to get along in this town as well as you seem to be Miss Splattershade."

Oh dear, more flattery! Splat was used to and enjoyed compliments about her artwork, but once the praise turned to her, she never acts well. Or in Reake’s case, very well. She was playing right into his charm.
“Well, thank you. I try my best.” She grins, but tilts her head curiously at the flower. “Oh, thank you!” she says, appreciating it for it’s multicolored beauty more than for it’s calming potential. “It’s quite beautiful...and I don’t think I’ve seen any flower like it before. Where did you find it?”
She floated the flower up, close to her face so that she could appreciate it more. That mention of being able to calm her nagged her a bit, and she resisted the urge to munch it right then and there, and hopefully continue the conversation without being so flustered. But instead, she decided to gently tuck it into her bag, letting the flower’s face show, displaying it’s beauty from her side.
“Oh? You’re new to Ponyville?” she asked, hearing his final comment. “I was wondering why I haven’t seen you around before. I’m still getting my hooves on the ground, myself. Though, I think I’ve gotten a chance to at least see most ponies in town in passing.” She grinned. “Welcome! I’m sure you’ll love it here. It’s fairly peaceful and calm here most of the time, though there’s plenty to offer! Big library, Sweet shop, The orchards... and plenty more.” She was beaming by now, starting to really consider herself part of Ponyville by now.
“So, what brings you here? Is there anything I can do to help you find your way?”

Reake's plan had been successful and this pony readily accepted his "gift." In reality it did calm whoever ate it down, but it also made them very susceptible to suggestion. It would mean that he could influence her when she was doing something that made her overly nervous.
"I found them when i was gathering ingredients to use to help and ponies i see. You see I am a bit of a relationship adviser of many sorts, and i also use my knowledge of plants to give ponies what they might need. This happens to be the first time I have found this town so I was going to be in the forest until I can set up shop here."
Reake quickly turned to the side to show off his "fake" cutie mark. The large white heart with a smaller red heart that matched is fur color. He then looked back up to the sky and then back down to Splattershade's painting. He new he probably shouldn't stay out to long, especially since he needed to find a safe place for his bag of ingredients.
"You do see to enjoy it Miss Splattershade. It was very nice to meet you, unfortunately if I am going to find a safe place for myself in the forest tonight I need to get moving soon. Once I have set myself up something and had a little rest, I will be sure to see all your beautiful paintings."

A smile crossed Splattershade's lips. "OH! That sounds like a wonderful skill. I hope you do well here in Ponyville, I'm sure there's plenty of ponies around here who would love some relationships and things like that." She tried to sound encouraging .
An almost childish giggle touched her lips as she leaned in. "Is it really possible to make a love potion? Or is that just a story?" she asks conversationally. But soon, it looked like he had to excuse himself.
"Oh, alright then, if you need any help getting yourself settled here in ponyville, I'd be happy to help, the doors of the gallery are always open to you." she said with a smile, gently brushing some hair from her face, and managing to unknowingly smear even more paint across her face.

"Miss Splattershade, anything is possible for a price. You would be surprised how many thing most thing are fiction really exist. Although, someone as interesting as you would never need such a thing. I can't imagine you would have any problems with that. The gallery is always open to me? You wouldn't be offering me a place to stay would you? i would enjoy spending more time with you, but I do have some more things I need to do tonight." Reake then bowed his head to Splat and then left back to the edge of the forest. What a silly pony to be so easily flustered by his charm. Of course there was no such thing as a love potion, however, there were many other emotions that felt similar that could be manipulated. The weak one's were always fun to break, he decided he wouldn't break her until she wore out he usefulness. When he arrived at his little plot between a few trees he set his bag down next to him and began to plan. Depending on how many ponies were in this town, it might take him a while before he would be completely set up. There were so many possibilities. for him with everything that was here, maybe he could work his way all the way to Equestria. [ After you post I'll move to the next day ]

There he went with that flattery again. Splat scuffed the ground with a hoof again, glancing away. "I was just curious... and I-... Umm... a place to stay?" That had certainly caught her off guard. She had merely meant it as a general invitation to visit her anytime. This wasn't quite what she expected, but she was a little trapped in her own promise here. "Oh... Umm... I suppose you're welcome to stay in my studio... It's pretty messy, but I'm sure I can clear some space for you." She offers with a weak smile.
And with that, he was gone. Splat heaved a huge sigh, feeling a huge mix of emotions rush out of her. She was feeling tense, embarrassed, nervous and confused all at once... And yet still happy to have made a new friend. He certainly seemed like a nice pony after all. She quietly returned to finishing her painting to help recollect her thoughts.
That initial streak turned into a road from the sky, upon which galloped a certain dark Alicorn, descending from the nighttime heavens. "It might not be so bad for him to stay if he's just getting settled in town. After all, it has to be better than the woods or wherever he is now." She smiles, stepping back a bit. "I guess I better go set up a bed or something..." She murmurs too distracted to even properly appreciate her painting...

*The Next Day.....yep thus is totally a transition*
Having traveled all day and night the day before Reake woke up in the forest after morning. He then got all his things together and decided to visit Splattershade at her art gallery before doing anything else. He was sure that it would be easy to "help" her with whatever she needed before he went to some other ponies. Taking his time to make his way through town, Reake didn't want to stand out more then he already did with his strange coloring.
Ponyville was quite a bit more colorful during that day. He could see the many ponies doing various things. It was much more populated then he had originally thought it would be. The art gallery wasn't to hard for him to find, and he took a moment to get his mind back in order. He didn't want to ruin his already "good" reputation. Reake then knocked on the door and waited for who he knew would answer.
"I wonder just how full the gallery is?" he thought to himself. "I should get her to paint a picture of me before i break her." he continued to think. He often got lost in though for long periods of time, however they weren't always bad thoughts. Of course he would never admit to thinking positively about someone.

The front of the gallery was a long, glass window, interrupted by a small balcony. Splattershade was hard at work in her studio, already working on a new painting, when she heard the knock at the door. She opened up the doors to the balcony and peered down. "The Gallery is open, come on- OH! Reake. Um... good to see you!" she greeted cheerfully. "I'll be right down.
Splat trotted back inside, trying to clean herself up enough that she wouldn't track paint through her gallery. Her "Studio" overlooked the gallery like an inward balcony, mirroring the one outside. She carefully trotted past the flower Reake had given her, now in a proper vase, shifted some of her completed, unframed paintings aside, and gave the small set of stairs a little push so they flipped downwards into the gallery. A little bit of levitation set the steps back into their place out-of-the-way. The multicolored artist trotted over to the door to greet her guest. "Welcome to the Ponyville Art Gallery!"

Reake politely bowed to Splattershade after being greeted. Taking a quick look around he could see how nice the building was on the inside. Despite his usually negative nature, he couldn't help but admire good artwork. He wished he knew more about the town, so he came for more information.
"It is very nice to see you again Miss Splattershade. I was hoping I could talk to you again. You are such an interesting and talented pony. If you are not to busy I was wondering if you give me a tour around your studio? Then after you can ask about anything that you might need help with. I brought all my herbs and flowers with me today so I should be able to handle any problems you might have."
Reake knew that he need to start slow in a new town. If he tried to do this with to many ponies at once he could get caught. For now he had to be the nice new pony in town until he knew more. He had heard about some strange stories about Ponyville, and he had to find out whether they were true or not.
