"Today's the day, Cutie Mark Crusaders! Ah c'n just feel it! The day we're all gonna get our cutie marks!"
The Basics
Name: Apple Bloom
Nickname/Alias: Cutie Mark Crusader!
Species: Earth Pony.
Gender: Female<3
Age: 6. She's still a filly!
Group: Good pony, o' course.
Occupation: She hunts for her cutie mark! And, sure, she helps out on Sweet Apple Acres... sometimes.
Appearance
Fur/Mane/Tail: Apple Bloom has a maroon mane, which might be unruly, with all her playing and tussling, if it wasn't just so naturally neat. Without the least amount of effort, it stays in loose waves, with only the pink bow on the back of her head keeping it in place. Her tail is the same.
Apple Bloom is also a soft yellow in color; and, overall, her color scheme matches with the yellows, reds, and oranges of her family: in fact, the three compliment each other very well, Apple Bloom's coat matching the color of Applejack's hair, whose coat matches Big Mac's hair, who's coat matches Apple Bloom's hair. They're very symmetrical.
...We'll not bring Granny Smith into this.
Clothes/Accessories: Really, the only clothing that Apple Bloom wears is the pink bow in her hair. If there's a need for it, she'll wear a costume, but she, like her big sister, isn't much into frilly things.
Cutie Mark: But of course, as a Cutie Mark Crusader, Apple Bloom is a blank flank! But she will get her cutie mark, she will! For playing the obo.
Overview: Unlike her siblings, Apple Bloom, even for a filly, has no semblance of an athletic build. Also unlike her siblings, this is probably because she hasn't given so much as a second thought to bucking apples. She does love to help out on the farm, especially when she and Applejack make a game of the chores, but she’s too small to buck.
Personality
Personality Description: Apple Bloom is brave, independent, and determined. While she may become discouraged or embarrassed if things don’t exactly go as she planned, she has a very optimistic outlook beforehand. In her head, everything always turns out exactly how she plans; especially at the beginning of her Cutie Mark Crusading days, she always assumed-and still does-that whatever it is she’s doing is going to result in a wonderful, brand-new Cutie Mark!
Because she always thinks everything is going to go her way, however, she’s prone to do dangerous or otherwise sketchy things that other ponies might think twice about, a quality she shares with the other Cutie Mark Crusaders. While this generally turns out pretty good for her (or, at the very least, as in the case of the Cutie Pox, she finds a fix), this doesn’t mean she’s particularly talented or lucky.
She also always assumes the best of people. Despite the suggestibility of young ponies, Apple Bloom stubbornly attested to the fact that she was sure that Zecora was a nice, “neighborly” pony, even though everypony, including her big sister, was sure she was evil. This doesn’t mean she always assumes that, though, she’s not very fond of Silver Spoon or Diamond Tiara, but she does tend to give the benefit of the doubt.
Another big part of Apple Bloom’s personality is her impulsiveness. Much a part of her aforementioned recklessness, the filly doesn’t think before she acts; and this can lead to big lies. Before she thinks twice about what she’s saying, she’ll blurt something out, with no idea or plan to back it up later. I won’t be surprised if there’s an episode in the future where she tells a lie that she just can’t cover up.
Strengths:
- Determination. When she wants to do something, nothing stops her.
- Versatility. She’ll try anything! Anything, that is, that might give her a Cutie Mark.
- Cuteness. How can you say no to that face?
- DESIGN. Little though she knows, it’ll probably end up being her special talent.
- Bravery; little scares her, even Zecora, back when everyone thought she was a bad pony.
- Generosity. While Apple Bloom can be selfish, like any filly, she knows when a friend needs a helping hand.
Weaknesses
- IMPATIENT. Girl can’t learn that her cutie mark will come in it’s own time.
- Stubborn. Even though Twilight has said so on multiple occasions, she just refuses to believe that she’s not going to get her cutie mark by trying new things.
- Selfish. She might come through in a time of need, but, other then that, she wants what she wants, and she’ll have it.
- She’s… not good at much other then art and design.
- Foolish. She doesn’t think before she acts.
Fears:
- Never getting her Cutie Mark; ever!
- Being stuck with some boring special talent; though, granted, her standards are pretty low.
- Anything happening to her family. Despite it not being a real concern, it’s a fear all the same.
Magical Specialty/Abilities: Nothing official, though I should say that I believe art and design should go in here.
History
History: Apple Bloom's life began with a period of tragedy and unhappiness; the worst ever felt by the whole of the apple family. Shortly after her birth (and, undoubtably, because or it) her fragile mother passed, and, from the grief, her father followed shortly thereafter.
The family was wrought with grief; so much so that Applejack, the middle child and Apple Bloom's only older sister, moved to Manehatten for a time, presumably to get away.
But Apple Bloom doesn't remember that.
The filly's first memory, actually, was her sister returning.
In the way that children do, she remembered her sister, but not when she'd left. She almost remembered that Applejack had always been away, though that wasn't true. Despite all this, however, the excitement at her return was infectious; Big Mac and Granny Smith were unusually chipper (well... unusual for Big Mac), and the young pony would have been jealous that they were excited about something other then her (because that hadn't happened since before she could remember) if she wasn't so excited herself.
Applejack! Her very own big sister!
She remembered bouncing around the house like her hooves had gained springs and tackling Applejack every time she saw her, even after her sister had been there for more then a week.
Sure, that overzealousness may have died down, but, even now, she's still possessive. Applejack's her big sister. Hers.
That doesn't mean the same isn't true of Big Mac. Just like all of the apple family, Apple Bloom is extremely family-oriented; and she'd be just as possessive of her big brother if anyone tried to steal him, perhaps even more so. A filly makes her most important and meaningful connections early in life, and, when she was first born, Big Mac and Granny Smith, but mostly her responsible older brother, were her primary caretakers, and, while she loves Applejack to death, that time with Big Macintosh did make him special to her in a different way.
None of this, however, changes the events after her sister's return. The three made a very good team; just like their parents before them, they all fell easily into their roles, Big Mac the muscle, Applejack the primary runner of Sweet Apple Acres, and Apple Bloom helping with the chores on the land.
While she does enjoy this, especially with how fun her sister makes it, finding her Cutie Mark is her primary objective nowadays; and, doubtless, when she does find it, her special talent will be all she wants to do.
She's a very one-track pony.
Roleplay Sample: Apple Bloom, chin high in the air, hooves trotting at a steady pace, and eyes closed in contented smugness, had nearly gotten her cutie mark.
She was absolutely sure this time--no doubt about it, her cutie mark was for throwing parties. Just like Pinkie Pie.
Sure, the whole baking thing hadn't worked out so well, but she knew Pinkie could teach her how to get her Partying Cutie mark! After all, who was better?
So, filled with self-assurance, the filly hopped into Sugarcube Corner.
Only it was empty.
"Uhm... Pinkie?" Apple Bloom peeked around this corner and that; searched the cupboards, pantry... even the ceiling (because you never knew with Pinkie Pie). She even found Gummy in the bag of flour on top of the refrigerator, but no Pink--
"BOO!"
"Ahhh!" The golden fllly tumbled off of the refrigerator (Gummy, sufficiently unaffected by this development, holding onto her tail with his toothless mouth) and landed, with a resounding clang, in the pile of pots below, to the background music of Pinkie's infectious giggles. "Pinkie! Where'd y'all come from?"
Pinkie hopped up to Apple Bloom, tilting her head to look under the pot that the dark-mane'd filly had hiding her eyes.
"I was at the pet picnic with the girls! Where did you come from?" Apple Bloom opened her mouth to answer, but, before she could, the pink earth pony was hopping after Gummy, who was meandering slowly away, shouting something about how she'd found him and how she was the master of hide-and-seek now.
"Uh. Pinkie?" Apple Bloom managed in her softly lilted voice, standing and shaking the pot off her head. Pinkie paid no mind, continued hopping. Apple Bloom followed. "Pinkie Pie?"
Still nothing.
"Piiiinnnkkkiiieee...?" Pinkie giggled and dove behind a doorway after gummy. The filly, frustrated, blew out air, and, after an angry moment, finally, after sucking in quite a few lungfuls of air, shouted.
"PINKIE!"
The pink maned pony popped out from behind the doorway, holding a complacent Gummy in her teeth.
"Hmmmn?"
Apple Bloom, shocked that her voice got such immediate results, blinked, then, slightly embarrassed she'd gotten so worked up, cleared her throat and scuffed a forehoof against the ground.
"Well, ah jus'--uhm..." She made the face her sister was so famous for making, lips pursed into a curly line, and then blurted, "Ah was wonderin' if maybe ya could show me how ta throw a great party? Ah just know Ah'm destined to get a partyin' Cutie Mark! Ah know it!"
Pinkie looked ecstatic.
As others might have guessed but Apple Bloom hadn't, she was no good at all at setting up parties.
Her decorations fell apart, her cakes came out flat (or burnt), her balloons bobbed on the floor after five minutes.
Finally, after one too many failed attempts at confetti, she threw herself to the ground in despair.
"Ah'm no good at anything!" In no time, Pinkie was sitting next to her, everlasting grin on her pretty features.
"That's not true! You know, every pony gets their Cutie Mark someday. Some take longer then others. Today just isn't your day."
The young filly rose her head, eyes wide in her distress, tears threatening to brim over.
"But when's mah day, Pinkie?"
Pinkie giggled and shrugged. "I don't know." That just made it worse, for a second, but then she continued. "But you will. When it comes, you'll know."
Well, that... that...
Certainly wasn't the answer she wanted.
But it would have to do.
The filly sighed, nodded, pulled herself to her feet.
"Ah guess yer right, Pinkie. I better be gettin' back to the farm, Ah've gotta help Applejack with chores." And she started to trudge her way back to the door.
"Okay!" Pinkie hopped up. "Make sure to invite her to your party tonight!"
"Wha.... Party?" Apple Bloom blinked. This was all news to her.
"Well, of course." The pink pony let out a bright chuckle. "We can't let all these decorations go to waste, now, can we?"
The filly couldn't help but smile a bit at that, young features brightening just a bit.
"Ah guess yer right."
