The Basics
Name: Monochrome
Nickname/Alias: n/a
Species: Pegasus
Gender: Male
Age: Colt
Group: Good pony
Occupation: Student
Appearance
Fur/Mane/Tail: Sleek and short, Monochrome's coat is pure white in color. Always neat, there is never a hair out of place, even with minimum effort on his part. Since he doesn't enjoy rough and rowdy play, his coat even manages to remain clean.
In comparison to his near-perfect coat, however, is his mane and tail. Both are a pitch black, a stark contrast to his white fur, and are always in varying states of messiness. His tail is nothing more than an unruly black tuft of hair sticking out of his rump. His mane is quite a deal longer and is just as messy; neither are able to be tamed with a brush or comb.
Clothes/Accessories: Monochrome is never seen without his baby-blue beret atop his head. He likes the splash of color that he lacks in his own coat's coloring.
Cutie Mark: None yet.
Overview: Like all young colts and fillies, Monochrome is a tiny little pony. However, compared to the average young foal, he is considerably smaller, not in height but in build. He has a very slim build with very little muscle to speak of. The young colt looks almost as delicate as the feathers on his wings, able to be blown over by the slightest breath of wind.
In reality, he is more sturdy than he seems, but is certainly weaker than most of his peers. His wings, compared to those of other pegasi, are very underdeveloped from lack of use. Most of the time, especially from his time back in Canterlot, he has them clamped firmly to his sides to try and hide them. By now, he has almost forgotten that he even has them.
Monochrome's eyes are large and expressive, but they're usually aimed towards the ground rather than somepony else's eyes. They are dark in color - verging on black like his mane, tail and hooves - but, to his relief, they're actually a dark midnight blue. He chose his hat because of his eyes, hoping it would make their color more prominent.
Almost always, his ears are flattened, slightly, in discomfort. When forced to interact with other ponies - with the exception of his parents - they flatten fully and his entire body seems to shrink.
Personality
Personality Description: Quiet and reserved, Monochrome prefers spending time alone. Never having had a friend to talk to, save for his parents, he had never learned how to talk to other ponies. Instead, he shies away from all interaction he possibly can. The only time where he is truly relaxed is when he's alone, able to look at the sky, or trees, or animals in peace.
Secretly, even though he's terrified of talking to other ponies, he desperately craves a friend. However, he has lost hope of ever getting one, truly believing himself to be unworthy of friendship from any pony. In any case, even if he thought he actually deserved a friend, felt that he wasn't a failure, he doesn't even know how to talk to any pony without stammering.
However, despite his shyness, Monochrome is incredibly kind. While it takes a lot to overcome his nerves, whenever he sees some pony in need, his overwhelming compassion compels him to help in someway. He generally runs off in fright once the crisis is over.
It takes a long time to get this young colt to open up with some pony, but when he finally does, he is a valuable and loyal friend. When around one or two close friends, Monochrome is able to talk and laugh the same way he does with his parents. Still, he prefers taking a back-seat role, listening more than he'll speak. Around larger groups, he retreats.
Monochrome has never been good at understanding any form of logic. He prefers not to be limited with problems that only have one answer and, even in those situations, he comes up with a completely different answer. When told he's wrong, he deflates a little inside although he would never say so.

History
History: Born to a pair of unicorns in Canterlot, Monochrome was certainly a surprise to his parents. Fully expecting to see a horn, no matter how diminutive it may be, one can imagine the shock of not only seeing a bare forehead, but the astonishment at the pair of wings protruding from his shoulders. The only explanation that the doctors were able to give was that one of them must have had a pegasus ancestor.
Nevertheless, both parents doted on him and loved the little black and white pegasus, named Monochrome for his coloring. However, Monochrome himself was unable to see the love in his parents’ eyes, and felt like a disappointment and a misfit. The fact that Canterlot was inhabited primarily by unicorns certainly didn’t help matters in the slightest.
Monochrome was very withdrawn and silent. Every time he went out with his parents, he walked between them with his head down and his wings pulled tightly to his sides. He hoped that no one would notice his lack of a horn or the fact that he had a pair of feathery wings. No one paid any mind to the misplaced pegasus but, in his mind, everyone was always talking about him.
Concerned about their only foal’s well-being, the two unicorn decided to leave Canterlot and move to the nearby Ponyville. They knew that there were plenty of other pegasus fillies and colts there, and hoped that Monochrome might come out of his shell more and make some friends if he didn’t feel so alone.
